Accountant’s Map Reading ‘Skills’ – Or Lack Thereof! – Brings Additional Charity Bonus
Detour brings additional contributions for a final donation of over £3,500.
The lack of map reading skills of a managing partner at Hall Morrice accountancy practice has led to an unexpected cash bonus for the Friends of Roxburghe House. The company’s planned 12 mile sponsored walk – dubbed the ‘Gordon Gander’ - turned into a twenty mile trek for Ian Morrice who managed to separate from his companions and walk an additional seven miles off The Gordon Way via Premnay, Leslie and Auchleven. Prior to the news of Ian’s detour, the company had already raised in excess of their original target of £2,000. However, further donations flooded in as the news spread of Ian’s ‘above and beyond’ efforts. Hall Morrice has to date raised £3,540 for the Friends of Roxburghe House.
Sixteen staff accompanied by friends and family took part in The Gordon Gander. Walk organiser Susan Milton says, “Special thanks has to go to Ian Morrice, who obviously thought the cause deserved something a little more ‘testing’ and in true charitable fashion went ‘off road’ before the half way point. But as a leader, he demonstrated his initiative by hitching a lift back in a van!”
Susan continues, “The staff at Roxburghe House do an incredible job, but an important role is also providing support to the families of patients. The Friends of Roxburghe House provide support from tea and coffee at the hospice to training for medical staff, and supporting us in our walk will ensure that they can continue to provide the exceptional level of care they currently do, to those in their hour of greatest need. We realise that given the current economical climate, fundraising for charities can be very difficult and as such appreciate greatly any support given. We’re delighted to have received more than £3,000 to donate to this worthy cause.”
