Hall Morrice Tough Mudder team

There's no way of calculating how tough the Tough Mudder challenge will be...

Being shocked with 10,000 volts of electricity and running through flaming bales of hay doesn't 'add up' to the usual day job of three accountants from Aberdeen based Hall Morrice, who are taking part in the Tough Mudder challenge next month (Saturday 24th August). Senior analyst Graham McKay, audit and accounts manager Paul Archibald and analyst Mike Lister have signed up to complete the Tough Mudder event- a hardcore 12-mile obstacle course that was designed by Special Forces. The team has also decided to raise money for North-East cancer charity CLAN in the process.

Designed to test the participants' strength, stamina, determination, and teamwork skills, the Hall Morrice workmates will have to battle their way past 28 obstacles - running through muddy fields, jumping into ice baths, and, in the final hurdle, running through a wall of 10,000 volt electric charged cables - however the accountants may wish these numbers were coming in significantly lower.

Graham says, "As the name suggests, it is an extremely challenging event, both physically and mentally. It's also an extreme example of teamwork that we've never experienced before. We signed up for a bit of fun as we had all heard about it and thought that given the scale of the event it would be good to raise money for charity as well.

"Training is going smoothly; we started properly about four weeks ago but are planning on increasing it as the event approaches, which is only four weeks away. I have friends who have done it in the past and they all loved it so we are definitely looking forward to the big day. We don't have a target finish time in mind; as long as we finish it together we will be happy.

"When we showed people the video of last year's event some people just laughed and said we were mad but others thought it looked a lot of fun and a good challenge, so maybe we have inspired people to do it next year. I think the Hall Morrice partners are encouraging us to learn something from pushing ourselves to the limit but are also simply hoping that we make it through in one piece "

Tough Mudder takes place at a number of venues internationally and across the UK, and Scotland's event is being staged at the Dalkeith Estate in Edinburgh. Organisers encourage participants to enter in teams as it celebrates people working together and enables competitors to lean on each other when morale drops.
