Purpose of the Role:

As a Corporate Tax Manager / Senior Tax Manager at Hall Morrice LLP, you will be responsible for managing the delivery of high-quality corporate tax services to a varied portfolio of clients. This role includes overseeing and finalising tax returns of intermediate complexity, reviewing more complex tax cases, providing advanced technical tax advice, and leading a team of tax professionals. You will play a key role in ensuring client satisfaction, managing compliance, and contributing to the growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Client Management and Delivery:

  • Actively manage and control the delivery of all aspects of corporate tax assignments for a diverse portfolio of clients.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of tax advisory and compliance services, including the review and finalisation of intermediate complexity tax returns.
  • Oversee and review more complex tax cases, ensuring that all work is accurate, compliant, and aligns with the client’s objectives.
  • Develop and present practical solutions and recommendations to clients, offering detailed technical tax advice during client meetings and in written reports.
  • Take responsibility for resourcing assignments, setting timescales and budgets, and liaising between departments to ensure seamless service delivery.

2. Technical Expertise and Advisory:

  • Undertake and manage detailed technical research on complex tax issues, presenting findings and recommendations clearly and concisely.
  • Draft and oversee the preparation of advice on complex tax matters, ensuring that all advice is robust and risk-aware.
  • Identify and capitalise on tax planning opportunities for clients, contributing to their long-term tax strategies.

3. Review and Finalisation of Complex Cases:

  • Review and finalise complex corporate tax cases, providing clear and actionable feedback to junior and senior staff.
  • Ensure that all complex tax cases are handled with the highest level of technical proficiency and in compliance with UK tax legislation.

4. Team Leadership and Development:

  • Line manage a team of tax professionals, including monitoring progress and quality of work, providing guidance and feedback, and ensuring effective delegation.
  • Offer on-the-job training and mentoring to junior staff, fostering their professional growth and ensuring the firm’s high standards are maintained.
  • Enforce the firm's procedures and culture relating to feedback, accountability, and coaching, ensuring a supportive and productive work environment.

5. Process Improvement and Innovation:

  • Identify areas for improvement in the corporation tax compliance process and procedures, particularly with regard to technology-enabled solutions.
  • Propose recommendations for change and take a leading role in implementing new processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.


6. Business Development and Networking:

  • Be a primary contact for colleagues, clients, and your business network, fostering strong relationships and securing new opportunities for the firm.
  • Identify and progress opportunities to promote the firm in the marketplace, working closely with the business development team to secure new work.
  • Act as an ambassador for Hall Morrice LLP, participating in networking events and client entertainment activities to raise the firm’s profile.

7. Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Identify potential risks to the firm, including operational, financial, and reputational risks, and propose strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, internal methodologies, and risk management procedures.
  • Take a proactive approach to improving procedures, implementing changes, and demonstrating commercial awareness in all aspects of your role.

Experience and Skills Required:

  • A professional qualification such as ATT, CTA, CA (or equivalent) 
  • Extensive experience in corporate tax, ideally within a practice environment
  • Strong technical knowledge and the ability to provide strategic tax advice
  • Excellent communication skills and a client focussed mindset 
  • A drive to test and trial new systems to help you do your role efficiently
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement 
  • Experience with Alphatax software is advantageous
  • manage key performance indicators, and contribute to the growth and sustainability of the firm.
